Initially, the Photos app could help you make basic edits to your videos, like trimming and cropping, but it was nowhere close to a proper solution. Thus Microsoft acquired Clipchamp in 2021 to offer a powerful video editor in Windows 11. Clipchamp was initially suggested as a solution in previous versions of Windows 11, but the app is now installed by default as of Windows 11 22H2. If you’ve recently upgraded your Windows 11 PC to Windows 11 22H2 and would like to edit videos, then here’s how you can make the most out of Clipchamp.

How to Use Clipchamp in Windows 11

There are a few things you should get familiar with before you begin editing videos using Clipchamp. These tips and essentials will help you familiarize with the app and navigate it better based on your preferences and needs.

Things to Know Before Hand

Here is a list of tips and useful information to help you get familiar with Clipchamp.

Clipchamp Pricing

Although Clipchamp has a free plan, most powerful features and tools are hidden behind a paid plan. Clipchamp had numerous subscription plans before it was added to Windows 11. Everyone didn’t prefer these plans, as many users found them overpriced. Microsoft has thus simplified subscription plans for Clipchamp with now only two options on sale, the Free plan, and the Essentials plan. The Essentials plan is a paid plan and is priced at $11.99 per month. The free plan can help you with most basic video editing tasks when it comes to the features offered by these plans. You can create and add multiple tracks to your timeline, use any assets locally stored on your PC, and more. The Essentials plan gets you to access additional assets offered by Clipchamp with a few more perks, but a huge drawback of using either plan is that Clipchamp can only export videos in 1080p. So if you’re someone looking to edit and export 4K files, you might have to opt for an alternate video editor.

Templates

Clipchamp offers tons of stock templates to help you create videos without starting from scratch. These templates have predetermined sizes, resolutions, assets, and other project details set beforehand so that you can create videos as a novice. These templates include predetermined sets for YouTube, Instagram, and other social media platforms so that you don’t have to dial in each setting manually on your own. Templates additionally include a basic theme and look created using images, text, video, and more, which you can use to create your videos accordingly. If you’re someone just starting at video editing, then these templates can be a huge help to you.

Recording

Clipchamp also allows you to create videos by directly recording them using your external or internal webcam. You can also record your screen and start editing it directly in Clipchamp. These features are a huge benefit for presenters, teachers, and creators who craft tutorials and other presentations. Recording your screen and your webcam can help you provide instructions while displaying and sharing your screen in real-time. You can, of course, choose to add a recording when you’re already creating a project as well. Like most modern-day screen recorders, Clipchamp allows you to choose windows from your screen that you wish to record, which takes away the hassle of cropping your recording in post-production.
