Chainsaw Man Opening Theme Song
Crunchyroll, one of the main streaming platforms for Chainsaw Man anime, has confirmed the first season will only have a single opening theme song titled KICK BACK. This track will play at the beginning of all 12 episodes.
KICK BACK is performed by Kenshi Yonezu, a popular Japanese music artist who has composed music for other popular anime, including My Hero Academia. This song is composed by Yonezu in collaboration with Daiki Tsuneta of rock band King Gnu (known for JJK 0 movie, Banana Fish, etc.).
In an official statement discussing the song, Yonezu said, “I wrote KICK BACK for the anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man. This is such an honor, as I love the original manga series. Finding the right sounds for this immensely powerful series was challenging, but I created this song by patiently building it up, one piece at a time. I hope you enjoy listening to it. Thank you very much.“
Interestingly, the opening video of CSM anime features a dozen of references to several famous media pieces. Even if we get the same track and video with each episode, it has everything to stop you from skipping ahead. You can find a list of all the references in the Chainsaw Man opening in our linked guide.
Chainsaw Man: List of Ending Songs
Unlike the opening, Chainsaw Man’s first season is supposed to feature 12 unique ending songs. Each of the tracks is composed by some of the most talented names in the industry. The complete list of ending soundtracks is as follows:
Note: MAPPA Studios hasn’t confirmed which track will be used as the ending for which episode. The sequence in the above list doesn’t correspond with the episodes that feature the song. We will update this guide as the ending song order gets revealed with each episode’s release.
Episode 1 Ending Song – Chainsaw Blood by Vaundy
Featured at the end of the Chainsaw Man pilot episode, this song is performed by Vaundy, a young Japanese music producer, composer, songwriter, and designer. Talking about the track on the anime’s official website, Vaundy said (translated from Japanese to English), “In making the song, I re-read the original many times, biting and swallowing the taste of Chainsaw Man that I got from that, and I think I was able to make the music that I thought was appropriate for this work.“
Episode 2 Ending Song – Time Left by ZutoMayo
The ending song for the second episode of Chainsaw Man has been composed and performed by the mysterious band ZUTOMAYO. Well, ZUTOMAYO is short for Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni, which translates to “It would be good if it were always midnight.” Not much is known about this Japanese rock band, except for the fact that ACA-Ne is their vocalist.
“It was a work that had helped me at emotional milestones, so I was happy that I never wanted to finish it all the time, and my vitality came to life. I created a song that, for me, was about the process of enrichment. I don’t know if I really mean what I say, even if it seems like I’m just going crazy. But I want to be stoked. I was empowered by the unyielding spirit to make this song. Thank you for your patronage,” said the band’s member ACA.
Episode 3 Ending Song – Hawatari Niku Centi by Maximum the Hormone
The third ending song in Chainsaw Man is called Hawatari Niku Centi (translates to two hundred million centimeter long blades. It is composed and performed by Maximum the Hormone.
Commenting on this track, the band said (translated from Japanese to English), “The pace of making new songs for the band is unusually slow for me, but if it’s for my favorite manga work, I’ll be happy to make songs as fast as a dog wags its tail in the heat. It’s always been my dream to have a song used in the Chainsaw Man anime.”
Episode 4 Ending Song – Tablet by TOOBOE
TOOBOE, also known as john, is a solo Vocaloid producer who’s responsible for bringing to life the fourth ending track of the Chainsaw Man anime. Talking about the track, he said (translated from Japanese to English), “I never thought I would be involved in the work to write an ending song like this three years later (after reading the manga). I am very honored. I would like to enjoy Chainsaw Man’s anime with everyone like me who has been addicted to reading.”
Episode 5 Ending Song – In The Backroom by syudou
Adding to the list along with TOOBOE, we have another Vocaloid producer called “syudou” who’s contributed to the ending song list of the Chainsaw Man anime. He is well-known for using Hatsune Miku in their musical creations, but this track shows off emotions in a darker, different light, suitable to the anime.
Talking about the song on the official CSM website, syudou said, “I started making music because I wanted to be popular, and I continue doing so because I want to be popular. I think I myself have a spirituality close to Denji at that one point.” Also, he added, “When I was put in charge of music for Chainsaw Man, I thought about what kind of music I would make if I were Denji. I thought maybe he would scream out his emotions. As a result, I think that such a song was completed.”
Episode 6 Ending Song – Rendezvous by Kanaria
Adding to the list of Vocaloid producers leading the charge on the ending song catalog for Chainsaw Man, we have Kanaria for week 6. The sixth ending song for CSM has been produced and performed by Kanaria, and here is what they had to say about this opportunity:
“Chainsaw Man was a work that had a big impact on me, and I was very surprised when I received an offer [to record] the [ending]. I always worked on music while thinking about how to get close to the one and only worldview,” they said.
Episode 7 Ending Song – Chu, Tayousei by ano
The seventh ending song for Chainsaw Man anime is called Chu, Tayousei (or All kinds of kisses) and has been performed by ano. She started her career in a Japanese idol girl group, You’ll Melt More, back in 2012. However, ano took her cute and sweet voice toward a solo career in 2019. The best thing about this song is the music video attached above, which shows Denji’s first kiss in a fun, light, and glittery manner.
“I am very honored to be able to [create] the ending theme song for Chainsaw Man, which is loved by many people. I made a song that is perfect for the moment [in the anime] I was in charge of, and I made the song with my own expression, so I would like everyone to listen to it,” said ano in an official statement (translated from Japanese to English)
Episode 8 Ending Song – First Death by TK
Well, TK from Ling Tosite Sigure needs no introduction. Anime fans recognize him as the creator of the famous opening track of Tokyo Ghoul, i.e. unravel. And now, fans of Pochita also get a gift from TK in the form of the eighth ending song of the Chainsaw Man anime – First Death. “I was able to create a permanent perfect organ with the blood that oozes from the story and the drawings [in Chainsaw Man manga]. I will pick up the Chainsaw that lives in me and dedicate all my killing power to this work,” said TK in an official statement on the CSM website.
Episode 9 Ending Song – Deep Down by Aimer
The ninth ending song for Chainsaw Man anime has been created and performed by Aimer. She debuted back in 2011 and has produced songs for several popular anime, including Demon Slayer, Zankyou no Terror, Bleach, and Vinland Saga. Thanks to a commenter on the YouTube video, we learned a fun fact. The video above has been animated by a single individual named Masanobu Hiraoka
“I created Deep down as one of the ending theme songs for the Chainsaw Man TV anime. It’s a song that I created while expanding the inspiration I received from the work, focusing on episode 9 I was in charge of, and layering my own thoughts. I would be happy if this song leaves something in the hearts of everyone who loves the work,” voiced Aimer in an official statement (translated from Japanese to English)
Episode 10 Ending Song – Dogland by People 1
PEOPLE 1 is a Japanese pop trio, which consists of Ito who plays the guitar, Takeuchi who is on drums, and Deu who does the songwriting. This is the first time PEOPLE 1 has produced a song for an anime.
“I remember jumping to read the first volume and being so excited. At that time, I wasn’t doing PEOPLE 1 itself, so I never thought I would be in charge of the [Chainsaw Man] ending song. I think this will be the coolest and most aggressive song that will not lose to Chainsaw Man’s strong worldview,” as per Deu’s official statement (translated from Japanese to English).
Chainsaw Man Anime Insert Songs
The term “insert songs” refers to the tracks that are in the storyline of an anime. Most of the time, these songs act as background music, but they can also act as narrative music in some scenes in the anime series.
Chainsaw Man anime only features one insert song, which is Hawatari Niku Centi by Maximum the Hormone. It will also be used as the ending song in the third episode.
Moreover, the track’s Japanese name translates to “two hundred million centimeter long blades”. Commenting on the track, the band said, “The pace of making new songs for the band is unusually slow for me, but if it’s for my favorite manga work, I’ll be happy to make songs as fast as a dog wags its tail in the heat. It’s always been my dream to have a song used in the Chainsaw Man anime.” (translated from Japanese to English)
